Meditations
Dig in. Digest. See if anything resonates or not.
A few days ago, a client reminded me of the vital significance of wonder. As with all my clients, we began with meditation. Today, she suggested we meditate for 10 minutes to kick off our session. When the timer ended, I asked, “How did it go?”
She smiled and responded, “I watched the clouds consume the mountain behind those buildings in darkness, and everything became so still. It was truly beautiful. Everything quieted down. How often do we overlook such moments?”
For a short while, we sat together, simply gazing at the dark storm clouds and the calm green trees, sharing a moment of presence free from thoughting.
It's noteworthy that when she first began working with me, she believed she couldn’t meditate. However, she has realized that meditation comes naturally to her. She doesn't force it; instead, she listens and observes.
So why does Wonder matter?
In wondering, we are present. In presence, there is no thoughting, no duality, and no conflict.
In wonder, there is a reenchantment with the world.
In wonder, one begins to see that all is interwoven, and that in that connection to what is, one is in Wholeness.
In wonder, we are slowing down and not reacting or rejecting.
In wonder, we see the beauty of nature, the universe, and our participation.
In wonder, love flows naturally.
In wonder lies the antidote to fear, hate, power, isolation, and violence.
One more thing about this client. She is an WONDER-FULL teacher. A teacher full of wonder. :) She animates wonder into her classroom as she doesn’t shy away from letting her wonder flow forth. She spoke to me about how she brings her students outside. When they are at the threshold of the forest, they ask permission to enter, as it is seen as a sacred space. They wait for an answer by the sound of a bird or the movement of the wind in the trees. Wonder.
They say good morning to the sun and hello to the moon. Wonder.
She has them connect to their interests and sees each child as unique and special. Wonder.
She gives space for all children, boys and girls, to allow their wide range of emotions to flow through. Wonder.
She brings wonder daily and gives space for each child’s wonder.
If education were like this, we would have a very different society; one of wonder, community, and reverence for nature.
“A child’s world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement. It is our misfortune that for most of us that clear-eyed vision, that true instinct for what is beautiful and awe-inspiring, is dimmed and even lost before we reach adulthood. If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children, I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life, as an unfailing antidote against the boredom and disenchantment of later years … the alienation from the sources of our strength.”
― Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder
——
in awareness
all is let go
here is awareness
one flows
dancing in presence
as one wanders
through these poetic groves
whole, alive
one is
you are
freedom is
wonder is
here
one sees
wholeness
meandering
emptiness
flowing
through all
is all
right here
now
infinite
letting loose
releasing all assumptions
one uncovers what lies beneath
a beauty beyond definitions
a magic beyond design
an intricate web of relations
that taps one into love
——
in awareness
one burns away all that is false
all the dictations
of this culture
in the fire of awareness
one burns through
layer after layer
all clinging
all duality
good and bad
right and wrong
burning though everything
until nothing's left
but ashes
even the phoenix
will not emerge
the Buddhas and Christs
disappear into the void
the illusion shattered
empty, free
all pointers gone
one swallows
the moon, sun, and galaxies
the entire cosmos
universe’s within universe’s lie within one
and here one looks around
and discovers
far from isolated
one is everywhere
encircling no-where
one now sees
one needs so little
and wants even less
one is not
who you think one is
one lives for
no creeds, flags, or countries
here
beliefs are veils of illusion
one is you
and you are me
we are everyone
one flows
whole
beyond description
immeasurable
wandering in wonder
home to what one is
to what one was and will be
yet paradoxically
there lies no time here
for there is no space to define me
so all one can say
is one is smiling
relaxed
awake and in-tune
grooving
into the
quiet infinity
of what is
Wholeness
-----
in the dream
ideas of good and bad
coexist
a realm of duality
a drama of actors and actresses
karmic actions / reactions
woven through time
nothing but illusion
myself playing a multiplicity of parts
one has, am and will be
every part that has ever and will be played
for one is all
and all is myself
here
right now
one is done playing the game
one leaps
over the edge
no longer content
to satisfy dreams
one is here to slay the dream
to jump where dragons and monsters
roam
one leaps
diving where
few want to traverse
one dove into the dark
labyrinth of
what was
conditionally constructed
exploring wounds of not being seen
of not being heard
of emotions being repressed
feeling separated
unconsciously
pushing down
hiding away
distracting with dissonance
one dug into
the masks one wore
and with the light
of awareness
one cut through Màyà’s dream
one slew
the demons and angels
of the mind
all of it
all beliefs, all identities
all thoughting
gone
all that is left
is nothing
Wholeness
-----
one meandered
into flowers today
in wonder
one swam into their petals
and rainbow hues
one let loose without defining
for a flower isn’t a flower
a word is a symbol
just a pointer
and so in this presence
words fall away like mist
in this presence
one is in wonder
all is released
all is present
no thoughts
just stillness
there is no distance
between myself, bees, and flowers
interwoven
we are
truth is here
now
love is here
now
no division
no separation
and here
there are
no doorways
nor keys
there are no paths
only wholeness
wholes within wholes
from the soil, plants, flowers, and insects
to the clouds, sun, and sky
all of it was flowing
to where everything
that once was
is no longer
for no words can contain this
without thoughting
fragmentation and becoming
dissolve like mist
in awareness
sight becomes clarity
Màyà is perceived directly
and the drama of
ignorance
and fear
are seen as
nothing more than a mirage
so here
one slows down
one moves with the flow
one is opened in wonder
one flows into freedom
one is here
beyond all words
all symbols
all ideas
flowing
is where one is
not in holding back
not in covering up
not in appearances
but in oneself free
in wholeness
beyond measurement
beyond anything conceivable
not forced on others
but radiating what is
which can't be contained
and here
the flower, bees, and all of it
flow within
the enfolding unfolding
kaleidoscopic wholeness
expressing itself as love
